About Pancragen
Structure and research context
Pancragen is a synthetic tetrapeptide from the Khavinson bioregulator series with the sequence Lys-Glu-Asp-Trp (KEDW). It combines an N-terminal lysine, two acidic residues and a C-terminal tryptophan, and it is one of several short peptides that this research group has associated with a specific tissue, in this case the pancreas. The KEDW sequence also appears in the group's work on peptide-DNA docking and on cell differentiation in culture.
Pancragen in the research literature
In cultures of embryonic pancreatic cells, Pancragen was reported to increase expression of the differentiation factors CXCL12 and Hoxa3, with a more pronounced effect in late-passage cultures. A comparative organotypic explant study reported stimulation of rat pancreatic explant growth, and molecular docking work has modeled KEDW binding to an ACCT-containing DNA sequence.
