About Testagen
Structure and research context
Testagen is a synthetic tetrapeptide from the Khavinson bioregulator series with the sequence Lys-Glu-Asp-Gly (KEDG), written H-Lys-Glu-Asp-Gly-OH in chemical studies. It consists of an N-terminal lysine, glutamic acid and aspartic acid, and a C-terminal glycine. Published work that names Testagen is limited and centers on cell penetration, nucleic acid binding and surface chemistry rather than on the tissue it is named for.
Testagen in the research literature
Fluorescence-labeled Testagen was observed in the cytoplasm, nucleus and nucleolus of cultured HeLa cells, and fluorescence-quenching studies reported preferential binding to CAG-containing deoxyribooligonucleotides. A review of peptide-directed cell differentiation lists KEDG among short peptides reported to stimulate immune-cell differentiation, and a molecular docking study included KEDG among the most effective ligands of the LAT1, LAT2 and PEPT1 transporters.
